About

PierPong is the merging of two basic ideas: the conviction that we need to help those in need, and the insight that we can have a great time while doing it. The concept evolved from the team at Pierpoint Design who found a great program at the YMCA to partner with that could benefit from such an event.

Run by Chris Knowlton, the Friends & Servants program serves troubled youth in the Spokane community by providing support, guidance, opportunity and encouragement. Their vision statement says it all: “Friends & Servants envisions a future where troubled teens will know that people in the community do care about them and are willing to help.” The proceeds from PierPong will help Chris keep up the good work this program is doing in Spokane.

PierPong would have remained merely an idea if it weren’t for the generous contributions and involvement of our friends. These people help to demonstrate that the folks in our community care and are willing to help. If PierPong can become a reality, we are one step closer to making the Friends & Servants program’s vision a reality as well.

2008 EVENT RECAP
Our first annual PierPong event brought together over 250 people including 50 individual players and 24 doubles teams in northside Spokane at The Service Station. The exciting night featured mascots from local sports teams including the Spokane Chiefs, Avista Utilities, and the Spokane Indians who squared off on stage for best of show. The evening was recapped with media coverage from KHQ highlighting the event Emceed by the morning anchors Dave Cotton and Matt Rogers. The first annual event was received well by the community, and endorsed by the local Spokane Table Tennis League and has committed to being a bigger part of next years’ tournament that is sure to bring better competition.

Hi, my son Cody Hagel plays competitive ping pong. I think what you are doing with this tournament is wonderful. Cody is 10 years old and now has a national ranking in the USATT. He is very happy to play any chance he gets and the opportunities to play in Spokane are rare. I wish there was a way to a junior club going in Spokane with the opportunity to travel as group to tournaments. I would be willing to do all I could to help bring this wonderful sport to Spokane on a much larger basis. Please put Cody’s name on the list if he is old enough to participate in the event. We will gladly pay whatever the cost to have him in this tournament. Thanks Lisa Hagel
